the candidates

Today I give you a three-card Tarot divination on the candidates:

Candidate # 1, THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, JOESEPH BIDEN:

The World, Reversed

A Major Arcana card, the 21st and last card in that series; traits associated with it are,

¶ Success yet to be won.  Fear of change in one's home or profession.    ¶ Lack of vision.  Refusal to learn the lessons of life.

¶ Superficial vision; outlandish expectations.

¶ Strong attachment to an earthly place or object.  Earthbound.

¶ Stagnation.  Lack of willpower and confidence.  Self defined limitations.  Resistance or opposition.

President Biden has become comfortable in his present life and would not want to leave it.  But he’s not paying attention to the goal he has to achieve and lacks the will to bring about this stability he desires.  He has  yet to commit himself.

THE HERMIT, Reversed

Another Major Arcana card, the 9th,

¶ Wisdom of others spurned.  Rejection of one's own maturity.  Foolish vices.  Refusal to learn and experience new things.

¶ Withdrawal of responsibility to others.

¶ Close-minded.  Locked into a stubborn way of looking at things, therefore no chance for personal growth.  Refusal to listen or see through the surface of things.  Isolation.

¶ Involvement with others.  Fear of loneliness.  Disturbing dreams.  A desire not to grow up.

Mr. Biden must and does spend a great deal of his time attempting to appear fit and able to do the work required.  He stands apart as is his mode.  His attempts to appear committed are just that.

STRENGTH

The 8th card in the Major Arcana series,

¶ Triumph of love over hate.  Triumph of one's higher nature over material desires.  The ability to bring both sides of one's nature into harmony is here indicated.  The seeker is learning how to release his fears.

¶ Courage, compassion and determination enable one to subdue and soothe the hostile forces within ourselves or others.

¶ Mental and physical strength and health.  The ability to cultivate latent potential to a higher more developed state.  A well balanced body and mind.

¶ Inner strength.  Love and gentleness.  Confidence.  The ability to give love.

¶ Healing:  You have worked hard to get where you are.  Your system of knowledge can be utilized in this area.  Trust your power to mend situations.

Having 3 cards from the Major Arcana series of the deck in a three-card spread is a good omen, with Strength upright indicating a power dynamic at play.  He is able to bring both sides of his nature to work in concert.  As is obvious, one can see Mr. Biden puts effort in keeping himself fit and connected.

Candidate #2, FORMER PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP:

KNIGHT OF SWORDS, Reversed

Traits associated with this knight in his opposite nature are,

¶ Irresponsibility.  impatience.  Timid, careless and even grasping.

¶ Money affairs seem to be at a standstill.

¶ Idleness, stagnation and carelessness.

¶ Careless, narrow-minded, idle person who shows indolence and inertia.

¶ Despair.  Selfishness leads to feeling lost.

Candidate Trump is being irresponsible and impatient at this time; presently he’s like a horse champing at the bit to get out of the stable.

TEN OF RODS

Traits associated with this card are,

¶ One who is carrying an oppressive load, either mentally or physically.  His heart is tried by pain.  Ruin of all plans and projects.  Complete disruption and failure.

¶ Oppression.  Although a burden weighs heavily upon the seeker, still he perseveres.

¶ Determination to see a very demanding project through to the finish.

¶ Transformation from cruelty to liberation.  Possible fall.

¶ Channels: Return your experience to the world.

Mr. Trump is much beset of late; there is a possibility that he could fail, but he has great drive and is committed.  His chances of winning the day, if not the presidency, are good.

TWO OF SWORDS, Reversed

Traits associated with this card are,

¶ Release, movement in one's affairs, but sometimes in the wrong direction -- for the rocks are still there.  Caution against dealing with the unscrupulous.

¶ Disloyalty, scheming.

¶ Wrong decisions.  Make new friends and create new situations.

¶ Disruption.  Seek tranquility within.

This is an excellent card, whereas one had been stuck, doors open and possibilities present themselves, but as can be seen temptations along the way may distract him from the true path.

Overall, it’s a reasonably good reading.  The one bad card is the Reversed Knight of Swords.

Candidate # 3: ROBERT KENNEDY JR.

STRENGTH

Although this card is shared with another candidate it does not make the same pronouncements as is indicated by his other two cards.

Courage, compassion and determination gird Mr. Kennedy as he is attacked and/or ignored.  Needless to say he’s in top physical shape.  He is the first candidate to offer healing for the difficulties citizens have endured in the last several years.

ACE OF CUPS

¶ The beginning of all good things, whether it be love, joy, beauty, or health.  A new breakthrough in spiritual understanding.

¶ The essence of beauty, joy and love.  Peace in matters of the heart.

¶ The beginning of great love, spiritual enlightenment, perfection, beauty.  Family love and true friendships.  Birth.

¶ Happiness.  Love, joy, optimism.  Love flowing openly between two people.

¶ Devotions: Receive love from the giver.

Robert Kennedy Jr., a scion of the politically committed Kennedy family, like his uncles and aunts, he has committed himself to public work aimed at improving the lives of his fellow citizens and fulfilling the aims of the Constitution.  He approaches his candidacy with a good heart and the right attitude.

TWO OF CUPS, REVERSED

¶ Loss of balance in a relationship.  A too violent passion.  Love turning to its opposite.  A misunderstanding with someone the seeker values highly.

¶ False love and misunderstanding.

¶ Disillusion.  Conflicting interests causes partners to separate.

¶ Quarreling or jealousy.  Uncertain future.  Lack of commitment.

This card indicates that one lacks a connection with inner self.  On some level, Mr. Kennedy is not dealing with something in himself that needs to be dealt with or it will deal with him.  It will surface and cause problems

Candidate #4 Vivek Ramaswamy

KNIGHT OF SWORDS

The Knight of Swords is also shared by Mr. Trump, but his is that of the wounded knight.  Here we have,

¶ One who is about to rush headlong into the life of the seeker (the seeker being the constituents he approaches.)  A strong man, brave but domineering.  He has great courage, is skillful and clever.  The coming or going of a matter of great concern to the seeker.

¶ A brave and skillful warrior, capable of meeting opposition.

¶ Fearless and confident young man, career-minded and conqueror.  He will stop at nothing and will sacrifice anything to get what he wants.

¶ Someone gentle yet persuasive.  An initiate into esoteric mysteries.  Kindness.

¶ See through the cultural illusion.

As can be seen from the traits associated with this card, and as he has presented himself to his constituents, Mr. Ramaswamy is indeed brave and skillful.  Should we be concerned about the domineering aspect of his character?  He will need some of it if he has to swim the political waters of Washington DC.

STRENGTH

As with the president and Kennedy, candidate #4 has also pulled this card, which indicates a robust and lively election campaign ahead. Undoubtedly much of the president’s strength comes from his colleagues and his status.

To date in his many interviews, some downright disrespectful, Mr. Ramaswamy has been able to control and move the conversation in the direction of his program.  He is confident and shows inner strength

.EIGHT OF SWORDS

¶ The seeker is fearful of moving out of a situation of bondage.  Restricted action through indecision.  Those around him hold him too tightly.  Censure.  Temporary illness has left the seeker too weak to fight for his rights.  Someone he knows is a prisoner -- either military or civil.

¶ Bound by the dictates of authority, one is unable to free oneself from crisis.

¶ A temporary prisoner of the self.  A withdrawn, introverted personality.  Lack of confidence and motivation to make a change in one's life.  Fear of failure keeps one in a rut.

¶ Interference.  Gossip.  Help or advice.

¶ Alms: Commit to a way.

From this card it appears there is something we do not yet know about Mr. Ramaswamy, which will surface as his campaign unfolds.  He appears to be bound in some way.  By who, by what?

These are the 4 prominent candidates at this time; others have presented themselves, but have yet to make a strong enough impression.

Manhattan Seeress Cover copy.jpg

Eight o'clock Sunday morning, the police arrive at her apartment in Greenwich Village, "How long have you been living here?" The roommate Elizabeth, after having accepted her half of the deposit money and rent for their new apartment, has called the police.

New York City doesn’t open its arms to welcome her, but she’s arrived and the adventure of her life is about to unfold.  She’s come from Maine with an invitation from Sarah Lawrence College to participate in the graduate writing program.

How one becomes a seeress is what this memoir explores. Stories have been specifically selected to illustrate, from the sublime to the practical, a spiritual journey introduced in each chapter by an atout, the Tarot’s major archetypes.   From the Fool, to The World, our human journey with its risk and folly unfolds. There is also an artist here alive to her new world seeking inspiration among artists on the Lower East side, learning the ways and foods of her Chinese neighbors, falling in love.
